How is Barbie more original than Anatomy of a Fall?!

They usually pulled from previous material including the clothes and dream houses.

Anatomy of a Fall (and other international films) got disqualified because it wasn’t produced under WGA’s Minimum Basic Agreement , not because it wasn’t original

It seems like too strict of a rule if so many good screenplays that will be in contention at the Oscars got disqualified but I don’t know their reasoning

how exactly would a screenplay written by a foreign writer and produced internationally be under an america guild's standards? this seems like the dumbest reason to disqualify screenplays

i did a quick google and Parasite won for best Original Screenplay so how the hell did that happen lmfaooo

It's not very clearly written but all these foreign films are DQed entirely for not being written under the WGA contract, which is US-centric. This happens every year. The guild didn't make any determination on whether the Anatomy of a Fall is original or adapted because it's not eligible at all.
