The University of Minnesota dance team's performance at last weekend's UDA (Universal Dance Association) nationals went viral, presumably because of their amazing turns (to be fair, they have had amazing turns for years so I'm not sure why the internet didn't notice until 2024) and possibly because one of the soloists is a male dancer.
While cheer teams have always had co-ed divisions, dance teams have traditionally been all female. Collegiate and pro teams have become slightly more diverse in recent years ( the Carolina Panthers Topcats welcomed their first openly trans dancer in 2022 and several high school/college dance teams now have male dancers).
Even with that amazing routine, Minnesota placed second in the 1A jazz division. Ohio State won by a margin of 0.5 points. OSU's routine was choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance runner up Travis Wall, who was accused of inappropriate behavior and giving drugs to a 16 year old dancer. In the past, Ohio State has credited their competition choreographers in their posted videos but coincidentally, they did not include that information this year so apparently they are aware of his behavior, chose to hire him anyway, but didn't want any flack for it.

Next up, Division 1 winners! Note: Division 1A is for D1 universities that have football teams and Division 1 is for D1 universities without football teams.
In D1 jazz, Cal State Fullerton came in first place but for some reason, no one (including Varsity) has uploaded this routine. Hofstra came in second place. It’s a little hard to tell from a distance (and because of the uniforms), but Hofstra has four male dancers on their team:
