I feel like he needs to branch out a bit in inspiration and direction. His first album was SO good (one of the few albums I've listened to front to back multiple times recently) because it felt genuinely emotional.

But like...keep moving forward. If your music is just you in conversation with your perceived audience of haters forever, it's going to get stale. Those people don't like you! Make things for the people who DO like you

ia. I am pulling for him - but this was a big nothing burger for me, sadly. And the imagery didn’t even bring in the kind of controversy and water cooler talk he was hoping for. It was just kind of stale at this point b/c everyone expects this of him now. I hope he can just focus on making the music really good, and I think he has enough fans who would appreciate it.

There is a time and place for controversy and shocking imagery (etc.) but if it’s your predominant thing, it’ll get stale quick, even with your hardcore audience who likes you.

Same! He is genuinely very talented and I hope that he has people around him who can actually give him good feedback and help him grow as an artist. It's so easy to become caught up in the internet and hype, especially since he's a solo act. I feel like a band at least has other members which you probably want to create things with AND for... when you're solo, the audience really is this vast sea of potential affirmation/attention and it must be so easy to get swept up into really needing that, which will lead to rehashing old ideas in hopes of getting the same response...
