alice was very neglectful and always prioritized her career and her needs over rebecca's. whenever she would go on book tours, she would give her grocery money and then leave! she was 12-15!
rebecca got pregnant at 14, and iirc, they didn't really talk about it much; alice gave her money for an abortion and didn't even take her to the clinic.
i think they were estranged around the time her son was born, but have no idea what their relationship is like now.

i picked up the color purple from the library just yesterday. ill separate the art from the artist to appreciate the story for what it is
