tbh it felt like the writing was already on the wall when they started burning off s2 episodes by airing 2-3 per week

And when Taika started talking like he wanted off the show, which was like the ONLY promo he did for season 2.

Saying that he thought he and Rhys wouldn't return because Ed and Stede's story had run its course and he didn't think he would be needed even though the creator was saying he had a plan for a 3rd season.

That, and they slashed the S2 budget already by almost half which caused the production to move to NZ (cheaper) and cut 2 episodes (S1 had 10, S2 had 8). No wonder they wrote the S2 finale in a way that could work as a show finale - enough stories are tied up satisfyingly, while the door was left open just enough to have a story for S3 in case they get the miracle renewal for S3.
