Kelly Clarkson Says Her Kids Cannot "Ever Have" Social Media While Living With Her https://t.co/MZKfM2bKHE - The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 6, 2024
Yeah these black and white parenting “solutions” always lack nuance and fail to take into account the reality of the society their kids are growing up in. They’re going to feel like they’re missing out-majorly. So many inside jokes and so much vernacular comes from social media now. It’s also a primary form of communication for a lot of kids. I even got fomo as a 30 yo adult without instagram and I actually feel wayyyy more connected to my friends (and in some ways happier?) now that I use it. So many of my favorite people post almost every day and I love that I can check in with them and see how they’re doing and have a more free-flowing form of communication. avoiding it wasn’t doing my friendships any favors.
What could (and probably will) happen is that they’ll just create secret accounts when they start feeling like they’re missing out. Having a secret account is even more unsafe than having one that their parents know about.
Her kid will get an article written about some dumb shit they posted and realize having a celebrity mom means they're in a completely different game than the rest of the kids they know.
The blanket ban doesn't always work, true. If they Lloe the kids to have some access under other names and try to involve them with their schools in others it might work.
I want to say kids grew up well enough without social media but it just doesn't work like it used to.
It isn't! I'm not even keeping up anymore. They air so much shit and then other kids do the same. If you don't spill everything about all that you are then you're a terrible liar. Hdu you like tatertots one day and mashed potatoes the next! What a liar!
I can't keep up. And obviously I'm using potatoes as a cover for more important things but it still stands.
IA. And kids use social media so much for communicating with each other these days, I could see it really holding a kid back from their friends and making them resentful.
Celeb kids of course prob won't have this problem any more than they do having doofy names, because kids will be bending over backwards to be popular with A-list kids anyway. But generally speaking.
Surely there must be some sort of happy medium instead of a blanket ban, idk, maybe limited screen time or parental access to social media..
