The NYT (I know, ew) had an article about how lung cancer rates are rising significantly, specifically among non- smoking women in the US and tbh I think is because the things the FDA allows are so awful here.
Iirc, the EU bans over 1300 skincare and beauty/ cosmetic ingredients, while the FDA bands 13. Just 13.
[theories why and what's in our skincare, makeup, cleaning products, candles and a great doco about this]
Not to mention they allow them in perfumes, cleaning products, candles. The FDA allows companies to hide anything under the "scent added/parfum" label in the US and so these companies do.
And since women have twice the olfactory receptors that men do, we are much more sensitive to scents than they are, and we also do way more cleaning than men do (statistically), using mass- market products that are often shady af. Vinegar, water, and castile soap only go so far before I want some non- homemade stronger cleaner....
The FDA doesn't even ban talc! Wtffff...
I run everything through the Clearya app and talc is still in everything, it's so fucked up.
Also - if anyone has great non- American sunscreen recs that won't make my face itch or burn please hmu. All American sunscreens and make up give me insane irritating reactions.
Also I can't recommend the doc "Not So Pretty" enough (on HBO, also on 🏴☠️)! Super informative and well- done and Keke narrates!
Anyways, I hope this tangent is acceptable....I don't want to seem disrespectful to him, but also want to PSA this issue and rising rates bc if there's anything that will NOT be researched, it's women's health. They hate us and don't care. They won't even give us disability for endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, etc. Fuck men and fuck the patriarchy and the government, the end.

And it was only this year that the FDA is finally taking action on chemicals in personal care.
And the EPA had the audacity to approve Chemours to import their PFAS/forever chemicals waste to their North Carolina plant, but they turned their decision over after push back.
Like, WTF?!?!

I hate to be that person, but you have to find a better way to phrase this especially if you're working in journalism. My body, your body, water, table salt, air, they're all chemicals. Just because something is a chemical doesn't mean it's harmful.

I hate the new trend of "crunchy" influencers who fearmonger nonstop with "toxic chemicals" and "poisoning by the government" as if the air we breathe isn't 100% chemicals

Oh shut up. People can know what is meant by "chemicals" and can still have a problem with imprecise wording.

They dont wanna fix Flint or any place. They don't care what happens to people. Fuck the US government and their agencies fr.
I don't think I'd see how bad it is here if I wasn't from overseas and hadn't lived in the EU, Eastern Eu, and Canada.
They're so evil.

And also EU sunscreens that are made in and for EU folks (so, not reformulated like they do for US customers).
I have the same issue with US foods....food in Canada and the EU and Eastern Europe doesn't make me ill like almost all US food does, and I did organic farming for years hoping to find an answer.

I discovered Korean sunscreens this year and they are the only things that my skin doesn't immediately react to and try to sweat off. miracle stuff.
