Nice to see so much KotFM love.

It's still so wild to me that France didn't submit Anatomy of a Fall for the Oscar, it has won basically every International Film award I've seen so far this year. Don't get me wrong, I love their actual nominated film, but I don't know if it's gonna connect in the same way this one has, which makes me wonder what will end up winning the award.

Now that I've seen Maestro, I am gonna be mad if it wins any big awards at all. Carey Mulligan was really the only good part, imo. Wtf is an "Icon" award?

I really want to see Anatomy of a Fall (it only played at my local arthouse theater for a couple of showings so I'm hoping it hits VOD soon), but I cannot wait for The Taste of Things. Based on the description it's like it was made just for me.

It's so good!!! Not to be corny, but it's a real feast for the eyes.

Hope you get the chance to see them both soon!

maestro is one of those movies where the further i get away from it, the more i just really dislike it lol. i agree about carey mulligan, i think she does sooo much of the heavy lifting acting-wise because i don't think cooper gives her a lot to work with (both acting and writing-wise).

we would have been spared of maestro if only bradley won for a star is born as he should have! this is all rami's fault

i've heard really good things about the taste of things, but yeah, it's hard to understand why they didn't go with anatomy of a fall. i've heard rumors that it was a political decision (justine triet has been pretty vocal in her criticism of macron's government)

Is it because a lot of Anatomy of a Fall is in English? I was wondering if that disqualifies it.

From what I have read, there's enough French (over 50%) for it to have qualified, but France may have wanted a film entirely in French, which The Taste of Things is. Plus the political angle the other commenter mentioned.

Ah interesting. Well, now it's their loss most likely.
