There are so many changes that the name of the show seems to be the only thing that’s still the same.

Despite that, I am withhold judgment for multiple reasons, but the main thing is that I love watching dance so I’d rather have them make drastic changes than canceling the show.

I also think that the show was often hampered by the original format. Most dance jobs, whether they’re with a dance company or a commercial job, usually don’t require you to dance with a partner all the time, let alone an opposite gender partner so I’m actually fine letting go of that aspect (especially since it often led to Nigel making sexist remarks during auditions and often throughout the season).

I actually really enjoyed Step It Up and Dance (despite the awful show title). It was definitely more realistic in terms of the dance industry and we got to see the process of auditioning in different styles which I liked seeing (although they lost me on the few occasions when the contestants had to choreograph together because that’s not very common for a dance audition).

I like seeing behind the scenes stuff so as long as they don’t try to go all Real World/Real Housewives about it, I will probably be okay with that aspect as long as the producers don’t try to cause drama between the dancers.

That's a good point about the partnered aspect! I'm not at all familiar with Step It Up and Dance but it's good to hear it had a realistic approach. And I don't mind some behind-the-scenes stuff, either, as long as we still see lots of dance. I'm not a dancer but I love watching dance and SYTYCD was an accessible way to see different styles. You make me feel more optimistic about the changes!

You might be able to still find Step It Up and Dance on YouTube! The basic format was that the ten contestants learned a routine each week. There were a few that I still remember even though this show aired a million years ago. They learned a routine from the cofounder of Stomp. They learned a really fast paced and very long Broadway routine from a production of Damn Yankees that Jason Alexander was involved in (I still remember one of the dancers telling the camera that it was 25 8-counts). And the week that I would have diiiiiiiiiied was when Tina Landon taught them choreography from Rihanna’s Umbrella video.

"personality clashes" is a red flag for me.
