So You Think You Can Dance returns for S18 in 2024

So You Think You Can Dance is set to begin filming season 18 on December 4. According to a notice from IATSE 479, a local union representing crew members, shooting will take place in Atlanta at Pullman Yards in Kirkwood through January 29. This is a departure for SYTYCD, which usually films in Los Angeles.

S17 was originally scheduled for 2020 but was delayed due to COVID. The show finally resumed in 2022 but changed the format, pretaping the performance episodes and allowing only the studio audience to vote for the dancers.

S17 also had a brand new judging panel that consisted of SYTYCD S4 alumnus Stephen tWitch Boss, JoJo Siwa, and Glee/Broadway star Matthew Morrison. After the audition episodes were filmed, Morrison was fired for “violating production protocols” ( later revealed to be sending inappropriate messages to a female contestant). He was replaced by Leah Remini for the remainder of the season. tWitch passed away in December 2022, a few months after S17 finished airing.

Fox has not yet announced if JoJo or Leah Remini will be returning as judges for S18. They also haven’t announced when the new season will air.
