- Private jets belonging to 200 celebrities, CEOs, oligarchs and billionaires have spent a combined total of 11 years in the air since the start of 2022.
- This is 44,000k+ journeys, and the equivalent emissions of 40,000 people in the UK.
- This is the result of around 300 planes, which have emitted 415,000+ tonnes of CO2 since 2022.
- Around 40% of these flights have no passengers on them. These journeys are often so the plane can be moved or flown to pick people up.
- The top polluters are: Blavatnik family, Murdoch family, Eric Schmidt, Sawiris family, Lorenzo Feritta.
- The source has a striking graph to show how much these individuals have emitted in comparison to the average U.S. citizen.
- The Rolling Stones' Boeing 767 is amongst the biggest plane polluters. It has alone emitted 5,000 tonnes of CO2 since 2022, which is the same as 1,700+ return flights from London to New York City in economy.
- Taylor Swift traveled 19 times a month on average on her plane between January 2022 and August 2022. She has seemingly reduced her usage of her jet. A spokesperson for Swift said that she has also tried to offset the carbon from her tour.
- No other names mentioned wished to comment.
- The Guardian says they've noted a marked rise in private jet usage since the pandemic, and are due to reach their highest usage peak on record.
