It is a woebegone creature who is a mess but he's also extremely smart and we love him. He started sleeping with us when he was a small puppy, and 75lbs and 4 years later he's a bedhog. He stand near the bed and wait patiently as my partner straightens out the blankets and we settled, and then he'll hop in.

My cat does this! She hangs out at the foot of my bed until I get settled and turn off the light and pull my covers over me and then she happily comes over to curl up next to me with her back against my stomach and her head facing the bottom of the bed so I can have my forearm between her legs and rub her chest and belly while we fall asleep, lol.
