Update: Fans (unclear of the amount) have filed a class action lawsuit after FP1 lasted about 10 minutes and fans later being asked to leave preventing them from watching FP2. Plaintiffs allege breach of contract, negligence, and deceptive trade practices.
For context, during Thursday's practice session, a drain cover busted hitting the chassis of Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari) causing extensive damage and a red flag. As a results all drain covers on track were then inspected --- all 140. The time cut into the practice and the FIA ruled the session would not be resumed.
Liberty Media's reply to the lawsuit: "Yeah we took your money!? And what? 🤑"
Sainz is facing a 10 place grid penalty due to the sustained damage as Ferrari had to change power unit components. There is not an exception in FIA rules for external issues with the track.
