I don’t care for her music, but when she makes national headlines for just existing, it’s hard to argue her popularity.
In 10 years her popularity will probably wane, but she will still be a household name.

Agreed. She’s arguably the biggest celeb in the world at the moment. Now comparing her music to his, (not that we are) she’ll never hold a candle.

Her popularity will wane but she’s already sustained a pretty high level of fame for like ten years.

Same. You may not like her or her music but to downplay just how famous she is...c'mon.

Yeah pretty much lol. I've watched the music industry for a long time now and I can pretty confidently say her success is basically unheard of at this moment. Like, the amount she is selling compared to everyone else+tour+length of her success in general+how everyone is hanging off everything she does is unreal and borderline unbelievable, especially nearly 20 years into her career.
I think there is a conversation to be had about lasting cultural effect and influence and whether she has it or not. Like, The Beatles aren't known as one of the biggest bands ever just because of the amount of sales they had. But, it seems like she pretty much has to be part of the conversation at this point, along with Madonna, MJ, etc.
