Unfortunately, social media amplifies the young edge lords and other people just share it uncritically. Plenty of other people have criticized American imperialism and foreign policy who AREN'T homophobic, misogynistic anti-Semites.
But being a provocative edge lord by quoting Osama bin Laden vs any of those other people will get you the views and social media engagement so that's what people are doing.

I mean truly the reactions to the attacks shaped a bunch of American leftists and pushed them to be anti-war and hyper critical of their government but I have literally never seen anyone but terrorists be like "Yeah, the attacks were good actually!"
