Matthew Perry's 'Friends' Costars Speak Out After His Death: 'We Are All So Utterly Devastated' (Exclusive) https://t.co/t4SQxAIVfL - People (@people) October 30, 2023
it is also gross that they (and their people) had to think about the right outlet to share their statement with. i mean, i get it. even if a company loses an employee, they may think about how to share the news. but it's sad in the paparazzi context, too.
I think this shows how old school the cast is still. Their relationship with people goes back to when they first made it big. An added bonus, no posts on their official pages can maybe limit the online harassment they will be facing.
I think everything will be done as a unit. That is how they have always operated and it really protects them from unfair criticisms about Lisa’s statement being so much better than Jen’s. They’ll have their individual anecdotes but any formal memorials will be signed by all.
Apologies for speaking on behalf of someone else, but I’m pretty sure it’s not sarcasm.
I don’t think Violue is criticising the statement itself, they’re saying that People’s (multiple) emphasises on getting an ‘exclusive’ from the cast is what’s in poor taste, considering the topic.
In my opinion, that the cast chose to release their statement to People should be enough of a distinction; we only needed one Exclusive next to the headline. Repeating it just looks tacky and the use of the word ‘obtained’ makes it seem like they did some deep investigative reporting or tapped sources to get it. They didn’t.
“In a statement to People,” would’ve done the job just as well and avoided them sounding like they’re salivating over people’s grief.
(It also seems a bit desperate. People have a decent reputation, as far as Entertainment Journalism goes, and everyone in the industry knows they’re still the go-to for legitimate PR. They should own that fact and be proud that they don’t need to stoop to TMZ levels.)
how do they put that in an article without feeling like a fucking vulture
