The hilaria thing boggles my mind, I’m adopted transracially and full on understand having an identity crisis and wanting to embrace your culture etc but she’s just full on faking it and even naming her kids these cultural names she has no relation to. Absolutely wild

I believe it when people say she just wants to be “exotic”.

Shows how much she knows about Spain if she thinks it’s exotic when that place is white af

British people also say they’re going on vacation “to Europe” when they go on vacation to Spain and i wanna shout every time because:
- the UK is in Europe
- where in Europe? Budapest? Marseille? Birmingham? Like what the fuck man

And when you tell them they didnt leave Europe they get upset and tell me that’s what Brexit was about and I’m like how the fuck do you leave a continent like EU and Europe is not the same

I always find it weird how people separate the uk and Europe. It’s something I’ve heard a lot and from all different nationalities. I don’t get it.

when I was in Grad school I had a classmate from Colombia (but he'd been in the US for decades at this point) and another from China who tried to debate me about this. I was like guys, I am very very sure that the UK is *in* Europe.

Hilaria's parents moved to a touristy part of Spain, which is why she knows zero about Spain besides paella and flamenco.

I once had a Brit explain to me that people from Spain aren’t white, because they have tanned skin.

100% there are many Australians who would argue the same (i actually think the white australia policy didn't classify them and many other Europeans as white either)

Yeah, a lot of people don’t seem to get that Spain is very white lol. Wasn’t some award ceremony listing Antonio Banderas as a poc not long ago?

what's weird about her (one of the things...) is that she does have a legit relation to Spain! she used to spend all her summers there and her parents moved there in retirement. No one would think it was weird to give her kids Spanish names and teach them Spanish if she just said she felt a strong connection to a place she spent a lot of time in. Gwyneth Paltrow published a Spanish cookbook where she talked about her connection to Spain since she lived there and went to school there, and I don't think that's weird at all. Instead she chose to actually fake being Spanish and we get "how you say cucumber."

Yeah it would make sense if she was just like I love Spanish culture and want to appreciate it but she’s gone a totally different and weird direction
