In a response emailed to the New York Times, Will Smith said his wife's Pinkett Smith's recent revelations made him realise "she had lived a life more on the edge" and that "she is more resilient, clever and compassionate" than he'd understood.
He also talks about developing a "sort of emotional blindness" to "hidden nuances" after being with someone half your life.
Pinkett Smith is currently on a press tour promoting her memoir, where she revealed the couple have been separated since 2016 and no longer call each other husband and wife.
Smith also shared a video of him smiling on a boat on his instagram with the caption "notifications off", to which Pinkett Smith responded with laughing emoji.
