Yes,there have been so many American sports teams (TEAMS not players) that have put out statements and it's like... so weird??? Why are you commenting on world events... and taking sides at that

LOL because actually there was a lot of pressure on them to. Tottenham's charity chair resigned as felt the club's statement was "too bipartisan" and there was a whole piece on The Guardian about an Israeli fan in hospital feeling let down by the lack of clear support. I think so did other clubs, I know Chelsea. There were suggestions that the English Football Association should lit up Wembley with the Israel flag colours before their friendly match last Friday, but they went with one minute of silence for civilian victims at least.

I have no idea why people would expect football clubs to speak on this but surprisingly there was some actual demand for it. RIP

I saw that Cruella wrote to a lot of sports leagues to get them to support Israel and most of them wouldn't and put out vague statements about loss of lives and it infuriated her.

This is what I was just thinking. Even in this thread. Celebs are damned if they speak up and damned if they do not.

I’m tired of seeing the cut and paste performative posts from a lot of people who don’t have the slightest idea what they are posting about. Hell I’d have more respect if someone said “I’m dumb and don’t know the history and nuance, so I’m just gonna sit quietly and eat my soup”

Someone in another post said it was the marvelization of war, and they were spot on.

And it's nothing new.
After 9/11 some americans were comparing themselves to the characters in LOTR movies, that were at the peak of popularity back then, and comparing people in the middle east to evil orcs and Sauron. I mean...

I follow John Cusack on Twitter and he seems very knowledgeable about politics, so it didn't surprise me to see him so clearly supporting Palestine and pointing out the disparity in power between Israel and Palestine
