I think Netflix should ditch the binge model. I find shows that are released weekly get more buzz on social media.

They do! And shows stay with you longer if you watch something over a few weeks as opposed to watching something over a day or two. Plus, the community just has a chance to all be on the same ep and discuss stuff.
When OITNB was really big, you’d hear about it everywhere for about 3 days and then it would be promptly forgotten until the next season.

exactly! it's fun being able to theorize stuff week-by-week and discuss it together, rather than have to binge it in a day or two to avoid spoilers and not really absorb it. I couldn't watch Stranger Things season 4 right away so I totally missed the boat on all the discussion and fun.
I think they're the only streaming service that clings to the binge model, I guess because they started it. But it's really not a good idea.

I think it was considered the way forward and the future of TV series; they didn’t really envision the downsides. And now, of course, there are those that have gotten used to it and still want to binge everything. I just feel the emotional connection is lost, or never even formed to begin with.
I don’t mind reality TV shows like Love is Blind dropping 3-4 eps at a time to binge because that is basically throwaway TV, but for scripted shows the weekly model works much better.

Yeah I think at first, people thought I was fun and there are definitely people who say they wait for the entire season to binge it at once, but I agree, I feel way more of an emotional connection to a show if I took time to watch it slowly.

it was so fun seeing all the discussion and trying to figure out exactly which song eddie was gonna be playing. and it only worked bc vol 1 made ppl care abt him enough and then gave ppl time to speculate

the scene wouldn't have been as epic if it was just in the middle of a binge

I felt so removed from the fun because I watched it like a month after it finished so I went back and read the posts, but it wasn’t the same 😭 plus I got spoiled for a lot lol

I didn’t connect to Eddie that much but I wonder if I would have liked him more if I didn’t watch it after he had been so hyped. This is why we need weekly release!! Build organic buzz and discussion!!

i think the bear s2, even though it's not on netflix, is one of those shows that suffered from being released all at once

I haven't watched it yet but I agree in general, I feel like bingeing a show just doesn't feel natural. it's so much better when you can sit with the characters for a bit before the next episode.

Definitely. Netflix shows drop, people talk about them for two weeks and them move on.
I prefer the weekly model, it's fun to talk about shows when everyone is watching the same ep.

Yeah! Besides Stranger Things, I feel like a lot of Netflix shows have no staying power when they come out. TV was meant for weekly release imo.
