One of my former co-workers would constantly misspell my name, which was extremely frustrating because my name is on my signature line and another male co-worker has the masculine version of my name (which is the version my former co-worker would use.) I finally ended it by reminding my co-worker in email and signed off by using a passive aggressive smiley face.

This drives me crazy. My name only has one pronounciation but several ways to spell it and even with it being in my mail signature AND part of my work initials several people still get it wrong 😑

lol there was some departmental email that got sent out a couple months back & included names clearly just copied off a list, and somehow mine still was the only one that had some weird spelling error - they added a full extra syllable of random letters not present in my actual name. not even anything that makes sense as a shortcut typo (like v or c jumping in there when using ctrl-v/ctrl-c a bunch). just... something random like "aom" in a name without any of those letters in it.

like, how do you even do that when you literally have the correct name available to simply copy/paste or directly look over at to make sure you didn't just keyboard smash in the middle of it?

it's even funnier because i've always had an issue with people *verbally* inserting random letters/sounds/syllables into different parts of my surname, but apparently my name is just so brain-breaking it even happens in text with the correct spelling right in front of you, now...

This aggravates me too. I don't know who it was, but I think it may have been a user here once said
'Spell my name, spell my name, it's right there in the email, not a hidden detail, always stays the same' (sang to 'Say My Name' by Destiny's Child) and it lives in my head whenever my name is misspelled (which is at least weekly)

same, my name is spelt with an IE instead of a Y at the end and nobody ever bothers to spell it the right way even tho it's right there at the bottom of the email. whenever i'm replying to someone i always look to their signature to spell their name right and i have no idea why you wouldn't

Everyone always gets my name wrong, it’s a name with several spellings and even if I have it in my email and signature they always get it wrong, I’m used to it

Same. I don’t bother telling cafés or anywhere else how to spell it (unless it’s like the doctor’s office or something official) because they’ll never get it right, but coworkers? They should know better when it’s IN MY SIGNATURE lol.

I have students do that to me too even though they have to search my name to message me and can see clearly how it's spelled. But some people are just dyslexic and can't help it; or they use talk to text and don't double check for spelling.

I get this ALL THE TIME and it’s so infuriating! Especially when the other person has a more complicated name than me! I’m like “I took the time to spell yours right multiple times in this chain of emails and you’ve misspelled mine in different ways the entire way through.” My name is in my signature! It’s right there! For fuck’s sake. It’s so rude.

This happens to me a lot at work. Not only is my name in my signature but I’ve worked there for 12 years, come on.
