YouTube Starts Getting Aggressive and Cracking Down on AdBlocking

YouTube is desperate.

The platform is making significant changes to combat the declining ad revenue it has been experiencing in recent years, and they appear to be ramping up efforts to crackdown on users using Ad Blockers.

The platform has reportedly been sending users with Ad Blockers enabled more aggressive prompts, warning them to either “Allow YouTube ads” or subscribe to YouTube Premium. The notification appears in place of videos or as a pop-up when playing videos on fullscreen.

If the viewer fails to comply, the platform threatens to block video playback after three plays.

YouTube started cracking down on Adblock with testing earlier this Summer.

A subscription to YouTube Premium costs $13.99 a month in the US. The price was increased by 17% from $11.99 in June.

So, @YouTube is now disallowing adblock users from watching videos unless either they "allowlist" the ads or they go Premium™. Either YouTube removes this unnecessary feature, or they wind up losing thousands, if not, millions of users. pic.twitter.com/Uh3ySb6jYs
