He is level headed and rational, but I think it’s because he believes he’s so much better than everyone else so doesn’t value their opinions. I think Lydia is drama and phoniness personified, but the way he invalidated her feelings and twisted the conversation at dinner from Lydia’s (quite legitimate) issue with him being a slob and never respecting her and her opinions to her issues and behaviour was kind of shitty.
Like yes, her behaviour sucked but he repeatedly refuses to change his own behaviour and continues to dismiss other people’s values, viewpoints and emotions as irrelevant. It’s like he’s a teenager, unable to empathise with anything outside of himself.
His mother I love and she basically said the same thing, that he kept leaning on her and she wanted him to stand up and be a grown up but that she didn’t think he was there yet. And his attitude proves to me she’s right, he’s clearly been told he’s smart his whole life and has piss-poor emotional intelligence because of it.
He’s probably the most decent person on there but….nnnn
