Hundreds of millions of cell phones around the country made a screeching alert noise at approximately the same time today, it began around 2:20 pm ET. Radio and TV stations are also blaring a test alert at around the same time.
SOON: The nationwide emergency alert test will begin at 2:20 p.m. ET. Wireless providers will transmit the national test for 30 minutes, but your phone should only receive it once.
