haters can hate but i have loved this season. i'm biased because i'm a huge clone wars/rebels fan i guess. i'm still not sold on all the casting (i warmed to rosario as ahsoka but i'm still not sold as mew as hera).
there were so many beautiful parallels to clone wars/rebels that made me weep. and anakin?! SO GOOD.
ngl i liked this so much more than a lot of the other sw content that's come out recently. but i think i'm just... so burnt out that it felt nice to come back to my rebels fam lol.
also my friend was one of the animators on the eye of sion so if this gets a s2 i really hope he gets another chance to work on it!
I'm a huge fan of the animated series too and I agree with your comments about the parallels! The Anakin stuff has me reading SW books, which I never thought I'd do tbh! but I felt like the costuming / MUA did a huge disservice to everyone? Like Hera and Thrawn were so distractingly painted. The contacts were awful.
Chop remains king though and shout out to Ezra for stealing storm trooper armor again. Another helmet for the collection.
i'm so glad i rewatched rebels before this show came out because there are so many even little things in this series that reference it and i loved it for that! yeah hera looked awful imo. and her contacts were distracting (ezra's looked so much better). i'm also sad her tattoos on her leku weren't very noticeable?!
chop is the best! and the way he recognized ezra right away?! /screams.
Yay there’s two of us! I love this show. I always text with my brother after an episode airs and last week he was saying how much this really feels like Star Wars again, as much as he’s enjoyed other stuff that’s come out. But I can see how people who haven’t watched Clone Wars and Rebels might not be as into it. Super cool for your friend! I hope he gets to work on season 2 (I neeeeed a season 2; they set up so much stuff it’s way too much for a movie)
there are dozens of us, dozens (no fr where are all the rebels fans hiding?!).
i totally agree it felt like star wars again. even the parts i didn't like as much felt more like star wars to me.
i really hope so. he previously did some work on the other shows but ahsoka was the first time he actually got his name in the credits. it needs to be a series! i just.... i need more. it can't end like this!!
There are lots of us, it's just that sw community has been very eager to crap on any excitement about this show to uplift Andor, so a lot of people I know stopped tweeting/commenting altogether, because those dudebros manage to find tweets even without direct mentions/names and definitely without any mentions about Andor. It's sad tbh, they've been trying hard to spoil all the excitement.
Ugh that sucks! Of course the dudebros are trying to ruin it for others. I don’t use Twitter for fandom anymore, I just keep it to follow a couple animal rescues, and I’ve found my overall enjoyment of things has gone way up. I haven’t seen them on Tumblr either so I guess I’ve finally carved out a good space there. Not that people can’t be critical of things, but not the attacking and nonsense.
Yeah, tumblr is much more respectful in that sense. We've had some unhinged people terrorizing Rogue One fans who weren't thrilled about Andor, but they were blocked real quick and now keep it to their own blogs mostly.
ugh that is so lame but not surprising. andor was good but i think it's way overrated. i've noticed a lot more hate for the ahsoka character in general too? people calling her "dave's super special jedi oc" but they have kylo ren or rey pfps? first... it was George who wanted ahsoka as anakin's padawan and also aren't kylo and rey jj's super special jedi ocs?!?!
I keep seeing people say you can watch it without seeing TCW/Rebels but you need TCW to get Anakin/Ahsoka & Rebels for Hera, Sabine, & Ezra. Thrawn you can get from the novels.
You could watch without seeing them but I don't know why you'd care about the characters without them.
this is where I am at. I liked The Clone Wars and Ahsoka, so her cameo in The Mandolorian was great to me, and I remember ye olde Zahn novels so I understand why people were hype about Thrawn, but I have never seen Rebels and so watching a clip of this show was like...I felt as though I was expected to already know everything about these people and their relationships already but I didn't so I just slid off it. was very Marvelification homework syndrome for me.
glad that it's hitting the spot for the target audience though!
There is something kind of flat about MEW as Hera. It can't be helping that while watching this show I was introducing my 10-year-old nephew to Rebels and watching it with him. But it's not as bad as how much I'm not into Sabine. I don't know if it's the actress or the writing for her in this show, but I've felt a big let down.
That said Eman Esfandi IS Ezra Bridger and I am here for it.
she doesn't really feel like hera to me. i get if they're trying to show she's older and more mature (even though hera was super mature in the series already) but her warmth and heart just ...isn't there.
eman is perfect as ezra. he's got all the little mannerisms and the way he talks is like ezrea too. (also he needs to keep the beard pls!!)
The show spent too much time painting Sabine as a weak Jedi and pretty much forgot that she was a Mandalorian. A highly skilled and educated one from the nobility who previously wielded the Darksaber.
