Wait, she started her sport as a college sophomore?! And then won her first Olympic gold medal seven years later?!?! Is that progression common in rowing? I'm just as impressed by her quick progression as her two Olympic gold medals. Dang.

I think so . . . a lot of people don't start rowing until college. I know someone that started in college because she was tall and slender and they put her in the lightweight boat. This particular friend didn't go to the Olympics, but multiple rowers from my university have gone to the olympics.
