Taking this post to talk about a fun book I've been reading :

The House in the Cerulean Sea ! It reads like some kind of fanfiction of an AU good omens or something, but it's so fun and such a feel good book !

FUCK! That will teach me... Didn't know the author but the book was in the lgbtqia section and I just randomly bought it. Ugh. Haven't read it yet, but I'm stuck with it.

Edit to add: I just read that Reddit. I'm beyond horrified. I need to get rid of this book. Let me go back to sailing the high seas before buying next time. I'm so disgusted that shitstain got my money.

Yeah, the book sadly didn't live up to the hype for me, and there was a lot of hype! I know it's supposed to be "cosy fantasy" but even if you don't know the details about the inspiration there's the whole vibe of it being veeeery sanitised. I was surprised to find it's supposed for adults - it reads like a book for kids. Well, one that's told from the perspective of a quirky adult side character, I guess. It didn't help that I've often seen it hyped up as Authentic Queer Romance™ which messed with my expectations as well. lol

The fact that no one picked up on this until he admitted it is wild to me. Dude could have just sat there and gotten the acclaim without admitting what he based the story on.

I'm so used to reading dark shit that when something that adorable comes along I need to swallow my cynicism and just allow myself to enjoy it (which I did, a LOT lol)
