We had a collection of this + six more short stories, and some of them were very dark. I'd love to see a Wes Anderson take on The Swan. That and Henry Sugar are the only two I remember of the lot.

Omg The Swan. So dark for a Dahl book. I remember reading it as a child/teen and even now it's stuck with me. I think it was the first time I'd read about violence in a way that was more real than the usual fairy-tale stuff he wrote.

It was the first time I'd read anything as a kid that was so open-ended with no justice, both the bullied kid and the bullies win in a way. It's an innocence-sapping story for sure.
