It just seems like it's a very specific dig on the fact that the first woman to actually do these things was not a tiny pretty blonde but 6'2" Julia Child.

It's just very much like re-imagining things fought for and accomplished by real women in a "but if they were hot" way.

Exactly. But to the show's credit, I actually do appreciate them casting Brie and not trying to make her look younger - in the book I think Elizabeth is like 24 when she has her baby, but Brie is a grown woman (and has been the target of a lot of gross misogyny), so at least there's that? I guess?

I don’t think the character is meant to be Julia child? She’s a chemist who gets into food and nutrition due to her chemist background. There are definitely parallels/inspo but the character wanted to continue her research and faced roadblocks able to do so due to sexism (leaving stuff out since I’m on my phone and don’t want to do a spoiler cut).
