Just here to say that I hate RPF with the fire of a thousand suns. Even movies that are about real people who are currently alive can be weird to me sometimes, although I did enjoy The Social Network.

I agree. I don't know how people don't feel like creeps writing fanfic about real, living, breathing people.

What makes rpf different morally from a movie like the social network though…

TSN is based on actual facts? Sure they changed a fair amount of things, if memory serves me right, but it's not Jeanine's wet dream about two real people she wants to see fucking, it's shit that went down with a Hollywood touch.

I mean, it sort of happened but it’s also a movie about real people that a lot of the people featured in it didn’t approve of and certain things are embellished or false like all biopics are. I just think it’s dodgy to be anti RPF on a pop culture gossip site. Ethically gossip is often way worse than RPF

But gossiping is essentially commentary on news (whether true or not) about public figures, no one here's writing chapters on said news and embelishing them with their own fantasies. There's quite the abyss between making a biographical movie based on actual facts vs. putting real people in situations (often romantic/sexual ones) according to your personal narrative. Those two things are not comparable.

Gossip is not always based on the truth, and gossip has actually hurt celebrities before and been malicious in nature, so that’s not making the point you think it’s making.

Neither is that reach you're trying to sell for whatever reason, but you're well within your right to believe RPF isn't as disturbing as it is.

I just personally don’t see the difference between some teenager being like “here’s my fake story about Harry and Louis being in love” and everyone on here still being weird about Chloe Grace Moretz because of one singular blind item from years ago. I’m not saying they’re both good, I’m saying they’re both kind of bad and no one here has a moral high ground on fandom.

I hate it too, and the way some folks try to twist it into something that's not a big deal is bizarre. It's just all around creepy, no matter how you slice it.

The Friends fandom has a BIG part of it who ship Matthew Perry/Courtenay Cox IRL and insist they love each other it just never worked out.

If she wanted to she would have.

Oh, i was kind of ok with that when i was younger, when celebrities and RPS fans were clearly separated, but now, with social media, RPF is horrible. I still don't get how people can be so shameless and delusional as to harass celebs and their partners because of insane RPF fantasies they have.
