I'm not familiar with their relationship history, and I refuse to educate myself on the topic, but if she was 14 year old kissing a 20 year old Ashton...
Haven't seen the word groom used yet on topic of Ashton and Mile these past few days.

I assume it's because they didn't actually date until she was much older and they'd both had other relationship in the time between. I'm not even sure how much contact they had after That 70s Show finished.

It could be because a lot of people knew they didn’t get along back then. You can even see it in the interviews, they constantly clashed. Though, usually that doesn’t stop people from speculating anyway. So, I guess it is kinda interesting that no one has made such accusations.

you haven’t seen the term being used because Ashton did not groom Mila and it would be wildly inappropriate for anyone to suggest that. Add ‘grooming’ to all the list of jargon that the internet loves to misuse.

Say what you want about casting a 14 yr old and 20 yr old to play bf/gf in a tv role, but Ashton accepting the role and then entering a romantic relationship with Mila 15 years later is not Ashton methodically building a trusting relationship with Mila as a child for the explicit purpose of manipulating, coercing, or forcing her into sexual activities. These words having meaning and it does nothing to help people understand the concepts or vulnerable kids understand the signs and tactics of grooming to use it willy nilly because it is one of twitter’s mot du jour.

I think that was also the age gap Claire Danes and Jared Leto had and she had to do these make out sessions with him onscreen. They never dated but those casting age gaps for teens that have to make out on screen are not cute.

I think Zach Gilford has talked about being uncomfortable with the early Matt/Julie scenes in FNL because Aimee Teagarden was so young. She was 16 and he was 24 when the show started.

It's weird how normal it was to cast like that back then.

thank you for this comment. do i find it icky when two people that met when their age gap was as significant as theirs was eventually get together? yes. do i think it always equates to a long-game of grooming on the part of the older party? no. i think it's dangerous to conflate a relationship like ashton and mila's with those between atj and his wife, woody and soon-yi, etc.

Exactly. People love to throw these words around not realising that you're diluting their meaning.

The annoying nature of the internet nowadays. People wanting to sound smart & educated not realizing they're dumbasses actively fucking shit up.

(for the record I'm not saying this about OP)

If anything, it was the show and the industry that groomed her into being the Ultimate Cool Girl. Someone on reddit shared a clip of an old interview where the host was asking and voicing his concerns for her having to kiss all these all these much older men on That 70s Show. She laughed it off as first but she did seem sincerely upset at the writing for having her kiss every guy on the show except for Topher (which I'm wondering now if it's because he was not having it).

Given her circumstances, it would take a tremendous amount of willpower and self-assuredness to NOT drink the Cool Girl bullshit/internalize everything she was fed on the daily. The men on that set clearly had ZERO filter so she's got the full education on what horny 20 year old guys want and had to embody it to a degree to be liked/accepted since she didn't have anyone on the show she could appropriately hang out with. The fact that all these adults were on the same tier (or below) of the corporate hierarchy as her, likely made things even more confusing.
