Some of those places have some back alley snacks (off the menu items you only know about as a regular) that are off the chain. They're also rich, so why not? If I were rich and had a craving for a particular dish that wasn't in my town I would totally call a friend up and say "Hey, you wanna get lunch at Katie's Kitchen in NOLA tomorrow" and make flight arrangements.

My late Father knew a guy that had his own plane (and was fairly well-off) & flew to NYC 2-3 time a month for breakfast at this one diner (it's not a very long distance from here). He invited my Dad once, but my Dad didn't think he was serious. He regretted not going for years after that.

i’m way too far north to even have a decent selection! the little i’ve had was pretty ok but the real southerners keep promising me that i’m missing something good
