I say this *all* the time. It's such an invalidating nonsensical sentence. I didn't see him rape anyone, therefore he cannot be a rapist.

Most rapes aren't done surrounded by their closest friends as voyeurs.

Literally this. Everyone polarises people and behaviour - it's not as easy as black and white. Rarely (if ever) is anyone truly good or evil. What happens in the grey spaces can be beautiful or insidious, and if you're only looking at the surface you're blind to it.
