Nah you're right and you should say it. ONTD doesn't watch basketball so they don't know what they're talking about. However, I do find it pretty funny that Noah Lyles can be kinda smug about this tho, even though I disagree with him.

The reason is because we dgaf about it and don't see it as important. lmao. Like this is not a military draft. We can't force the most talented players to participate if they don't want to. And they don't want to.

This is the NBA's off season. So the big American NBA stars would rather spend their time off on vacation or doing wtvr rather than playing a tournament that means nothing (to them).

Olympics can get the big names though because the players want those gold medals so our Olympics team will be better.

But this tournament? It's not important to the top American players. So yes it's the World Cup, but many of the best players in the world aren't participating so.... 🤷‍♀️

eta: oh yeah i see you found your answer. But yes! The Olympics are more important/prestigious so the top talent would rather play in that and take the time off for this tournament.

One more thing to add, I think the roster has a lot of talent, and I hope younger players aren't discouraged and get a chance to redeem themselves (put Halliburton on the olympics team tbh!) But I think there were a lot of issues with the roster construction, like where are the bigs! What happened to rebounding!

yeah it's not like these players aren't talented! they are! But many of them are still on the upswings of their careers so it's like they're not the TOP TOP players in ALL of the US. I'm def not laughing at these guys. They have lots of time to get even better. I was just pointing out that like... the US wasn't sending like our #1 guys in the same way other countries were.
