#DannyMasterson update… I just picked up the letters from Masterson’s family and friends sent to Judge Olmedo ahead of today’s sentencing. Still going through them but actors @aplusk and @MilaKunisv both speak highly of their friend, now convicted rapist @dannymasterson

I fucking hate the "except my friends, they wouldn't do that" shit

They wouldn't do it to YOU.

it's such stupid logic when people are like "but my friend was a great guy around me." of course he was. it's not like every criminal is walking around advertising their violent sexual tendencies. they don't want to get caught, and they also cannot feasibly assault every single person they ever meet.

this is how abusers get away with it every. single. time. they're outwardly charming to everyone except their victims and use that to further isolate them and gaslight them.

A lot of times they are outwardly charming to their victims too. In the beginning.

that too! they lovebomb/hook and then slowly introduce the abuse

This. Abusers spend just as much time grooming future supporters as they do their victims.

I feel like culturally as a whole people have such a lack of nuance regarding abusers.

They expect them to be violent strangers, I guess because that's easier than realizing they are our families and friends.

people don't want to think it could happen to them. they want to think of victims as people who did stupid things to end up in that situation. they want to believe they have some sixth sense to detect the bad people.

Yea it's just more denial as a coping mechanism.

honestly, how do people not get this? of course abusive assholes arent abusive assholes to every single person they meet, how do you think they fly under the damn radar for so long???

absolutely infuriating, tbh

I think a lot of it is just playing ostrich. It's way too difficult and painful to realise that the relationship you thought you had with the person you thought you knew was so deceptive, and that your asshole radar gave you a false negative. It shakes the illusion of safety and that you can always trust your assessments.

So people stick their heads in the sand, because that's easier than confronting the reality

The "but he never did any of this with/to me" argument is such fucking bullshit, it's infuriating. Whenever I hear someone say that about sexual assault I'm like... please replace sexual assault with murder and tell me if you'd still be like "oh but he didn't murder ME so I really can't talk about whether he's a murderer or not."

I know I've said it times before, but this is the big reason I didn't out my rapists. He came from a good Xtian family, had a scholarship, he would NEVARRRRRRRRR...

My life would have been dragged though the gutter and this asshole still would never have seen a courtroom, let alone a conviction.

Anyone that supports fucking rapists and human traffickers can rot in a dumpster fire from hell.

May all rapists burn in hell forever.

Thanks. I just makes me fucking BURN when I read people supporting their rapists friends/family. That's how you keep the victim silent.
