1 2 For the non-theater people, a ghost light is a light that is left on the stage when the theater is not occupied. Superstitions say that every theater has a ghost and leaving the light on is to keep the ghost from sabotaging the set or cursing the production. The practical/non-superstitious reason for having a ghost light is so that when people return to the theater the following day, there's enough light to navigate in the otherwise dark theater (allowing the first person in to turn on the regular lights without tripping, falling, or walking into the set).
