Around an inch of rain over the last 24 hours has forced Burning Man to issue a shelter-in-place instruction to the 73,000 people attending this year. Access into the playa (the grounds where Burning Man is held) is closed. Only emergency vehicles on the playa are allowed to drive. There are currently no plans for "the exodus," or the process of mass exists after the festivities are over.

At least one person is confirmed dead, though authorities have not confirmed any details, including the cause of death and whether it is connected to the weather emergency.

Diplo and Chris Rock were attending, but they got a ride out in a fan's pickup truck. All portable toilets at the festival are closed for service. There is hardly any cell phone service. Some assholes were auctioning off 15-minute StarLink sessions to the highest bidders. Also, there were rumors of an ebola outbreak. People are dumb.

In the spirit of hippies, many attendees are pressing on and continuing to party. In the spirit of assholes, many people are abandoning their campsites and choosing to walk to the gate entrance to take preplanned transportation home.

No Ebola. No fence.

Real time, boots on the ground dispatch from Burning Man Sunday morning. Used to be able to count on this app to provide real time info in a crisis. Those days are long gone. #Burningman2023 #burningman #ebola #misinformation #burningmanebola pic.twitter.com/SHTifpyMNS
