Eh I think her and Zoe are weakest Catwoman. Zoe just managed to skirt by cause she's got the looks and sexuality for the role but her acting was kinda bad.

Anne was fine acting-wise but she lacked all the sensuality and sexuality for Catwoman. Funny enough I think she had a bit more in Ocean's 8 from the clips I've seen.

i think that's less on anne and more on nolan being shit at writing women. if anne had been given the michelle version of catwoman i could see her kill that too

as for zoe she's just a terrible actor, no script or director's gonna fix that void of charisma

It's not just the writing, it's the looks too. Cause Catwoman is almost more a vibe and appearance than everything else- the looks make the persona.

Anne is a pretty girl but I remember thinking she did not look or feel like Catwoman in her non-costume scenes. All the other ones look and feel Catwoman outside of their costumes. So for me it also goes back to that raw sexuality which is why despite her bad acting Zoe at least had that in her favor.

Poison Ivy is another one who's got raw sexuality and vampy persona so you would somebody to embody those qualities to make it work.

Anne's a good actress but she doesn't have that utter lack of inhibition or palpable sensuality necessary to turn in the sexy, campy, OTT performance like MP did as Catwoman.

I still think an older actress with more "juice" like Charlize Theron really belonged in that role. But I think other actresses in Anne's age range like Eva Green or Emily Blunt would have elevated the shitty writing with their performance in a way that Anne really couldn't.

The writing for Zoe’s catwoman sucked in my opinion. Like I don’t think she’s an actress that can elevate bad writing but I think she’s ok to solid when given good material.

Her whole delivery in some scenes were terrible. She was good in season 2 of Big Little Lies.

Agreed. She lost me as soon as she said "Oops, no one told me [the safe] was uncrackable." I knew what they were trying to do but she came off as a theater kid as Catwoman.

Yeah it almost wants to be there but never lands completely. Like her movements leading up to her jumping out is Catwoman-like but any actress can do that....the persona and looks are the hardest part of landing Catwoman.

Zoe with all her terrible acting effortlessly does Catwoman's vibe compared to Anne clearly thinking about every single move.

Exactly.

What, WHAT, exactly is good about her Catwoman performance? I never understand it when people rave about it.

And yes, it's not even her fault entirely. It's terrible writing for Catwoman and she was 10 years too young for the role

It's weird because Anne has a lot of natural sensuality but she was so stiff. I blame Nolan more than her.

totally agree. and I agree with your second point too, I actually think anne might have done a better job now than then - which makes me wonder if this is a role that generally would be better for an older woman? selina isn't young ingenue vibes, she has a sensuality and unhingedness that I feel like is only believable if you have had more than twoish decades of life on this earth lol but honestly she had a lot stacked against her because no one was going to be topping Michelle's performance

Anne was 29 when she did the role while Michelle was 33, so it's just a matter of casting the person who has the whole package.

I think Anne was miscast on-top of immense pressure cause I was forgetting that she was the first person after Michelle to play Catwoman in a big-screen adapatation. It had been exactly 20 years since Michelle's version by 2012.

she WAS? wow i thought she was like 23 - same with zoe who i just found out is in her 30s lmao well in any case IA, I can imagine the casting people probably didn't want to find someone who felt too much like michelle but as a result they didn't find someone who really embodied the character, even in a different way. I remember feeling off about the casting when it was announced but I wanted to have faith in them because I was skeptical about Heath too and was proven totally wrong but yeah I think they still missed the mark with Anne
