I remember Hilary dating Benji and being sad about it. I was 1 year younger and some of my friends were dating/sexually involved w= adults and I hated it. I didn't have the right words but I knew it was wrong

I read Mayte's book a few years ago and she said he waited until she was 18 before starting anything with her, buuuuuuut he met her when she was 16. When she was 17, he became her legal guardian and had her move to Minneapolis.

Just to add another level of queasiness over Prince, he's an example of someone groomed growing up and repeating the same behavior as an adult. His 32 year old half sister had a sexual relationship with him when he was 16. He even wrote a song about it "sister" but since he was in his "weird sexual guy" phase in the media, the fact that he wrote a song about being a victim of incestuous sexual abuse was treated as a JOKE. 16 years after writing that song, 22 years after his experience with sister, he's in the same situation with Mayte.

its SO crazy b/c I remember all the girls in my class being so MAD at Hilary/jealous of her, but the age gap was never the problem whatsoever. It was like, a 25 year old dating a teen was OK and normal as long as her parents give permission
