Nancy Drew showrunner calls out nuCW for lack of cancellation news

Aug 25, 2023 21:35

Kennedy was in line to shoot THE GOOD LAWYER. And like any good agent would do, Kennedy’s rep asked our Studio what our future schedule for NANCY DREW was going to look like. Our Studio wanted to try and make it work for Kennedy so she could do both.

fuck cw and nexstar! 🤬 but what i'm surprised at is that the writers didn't know/didn't prepare for it in advance to be their last season. when they announced the s4 renewal, in my head (and a lot of fans) it was gonna be their very last.

to expect another season on a dying channel that was cancelling all their tv shows one by one fast was very delulu of them 😅, like did cw execs lied to them and told them they were safe???? i want more tea!!!

I think it was renewed before the mass cancelations, so that might have made them feel safer? But it's still fucked that they got renewed in March 2022. Started filming in July 2022. But they weren't told until October that the show wasn't gonna be renewed. I know with the mass cancelations, a lot of shows were given the heads up that the season finales should also serve as a potential series finale.

I do agree they should have seen the writing on the wall.

yeah and maybe they were lied to that they were safe (we'll never know 'til the showrunner speak about it or someone higher up). cw should def have not been assholes and been upfront to them during the renewal period and tell them that they were not sure they were gonna get another season, so to plan accordingly.

but the lack of planning from the writers is disappointing. especially when we as fans all saw the writing on the wall, so why couldn't they? :(

i legit thought that when the s4 renewal got announced, they also announced it as its last season, so imagine my confusion when the show started adding more and more shit to resolve along the season and nothing was getting wrapped up so close to the end. the shock i got when a friend told me that no the writers didn't know prior to writing this season that it was gonna the last one 😅 it suddenly all made sense, and i was suddenly very scared 😭

either way, fuck you cw.

Did everything get wrapped up?

kinda? it all felt very rushed in the finale to answer the mysteries of this season. the personal journeys of the characters are def not done at all tho. where they all ended up felt very temporary (and rushed once again) but that was expected since the writers rewrote it at the last second to fit in some kind of satisfying conclusion. to me it felt like a season finale and not the ending of the series :(

Do you think maybe they are hoping another streaming service or company may pick it up. I haven't watched it but my mom is a big fan. And it sucks the writers were treated that way, but I am in favor of the idea that every season should wrap up some of the bigger things. I hate getting in to a series and it having a big blank or twist in a season ending then it being cancelled. At this point any writer should know if that a series can easily be canceled after 1-2 season (mostly not to have to pay more to renew contracts). Looking at you Netflix and Amazon.

just copying a reply i wrote to someone else in this post: "this same person tweeted a couple days ago that getting picked up by another channel wouldn't be a possibility because the sets were already torn down/sold to other cbs shows for use and their permits ran out for the physical real life locations where they filmed :("

i feel like the cast and crew will always feel love for this show and would prob jump in at the idea of having a lil limited series or movie don't the line *crossing fingers and toes*, but right now it feels like they all have moved on to other things (because they had no other choice).

I did sort of wonder why Riley Smith is still in Vancouver with his gf and daughter/hanging out with Maddison Jaizani on a boat there. Maybe they just like the place.

i know maddison moved there and decided to now lives there full time, so i guess she's real close to riley and his fam since they both live there full time? maybe riley also decided to live in vancouver

Yeah I’m a little confused, it was definitely very crappy of no one at the CW to directly confirm anything with them, but I’m not sure why they were automatically expecting a 5th season pickup and writing towards a cliffhanger. I’d always thought that everyone kind of already knew that the fourth season was going to be the last one?

!!!! if we all expected it, why couldn't the writers too??? maybe they were in denial since they clearly loved writing this show :(

yeah honestly this is what surprises me most. when season 4 was announced everyone on my tl was pretty much relieved they'd at least get a season to wrap everything up and we get our finale, literally everything was getting canceled so no one expected this to have another season. Idk if they just felt safe because in the past CW has kept around their less performing shows around for a bit (usually because they were cheaper than other shows), but I think they should have definitely gone into season 4 as if it were their last.

Everything felt so rushed the last few episodes and I can tell exactly when they found out the news lol.
