It's been 10 years since 2013 so let's look back at the Billboard Hot 100 number ones from back then.
In 2013, a total of 11 singles claimed the top spot. Eight acts achieved their first US number-one single, either as a lead artist or a featured guest.



1. Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars
Locked Out of Heaven was the first song of the year to hit number one.
The single was number 1 on: January 5, January 12, January 19 and January 26.

2. Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz
Thrift Shop was the first number one single for Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Wanz. It was the best performing single of the year, peaking atop the chart for six weeks and topping the Billboard Year-End Hot 100.
The single was number 1 on: February 2, February 9, February 16, February 16, February 23, April 6 and April 13.

3. Harlem Shake by Baauer
While Harlem Shake was released on May 22 2012, it did not hit big till February 2013 when a Youtube video set to its music developed into a meme of the same name. I too joined the challenge on a boat with my class somewhere in the Netherlands. Harlem Shake was Baauers first US number one single.
The single was number 1 on: March 2, March 9, March 16, March 23 and March 30.

4. When I was Your Man by Bruno Mars
This was Mars' fifth single to top the chart. Mars became the fastest male artist to gain five number-one singles since Elvis Presley.

5. Just Give Me a Reason By Pink ft. Nate Ruess
"Just Give Me a Reason" won the Billboard Mid-Year Award for Favorite Hot 100 No. Single but is mostly known for this iconic cover

6. Can't Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis fr. Ray Dalton
"Can't Hold Us" makes Macklemore and Ryan Lewis the first act to score number-one singles on the Hot 100 with their first two charting songs since Lady Gaga with her hits "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" in 2009.
The single was number 1 on: May 18, May 25, June 1, June 8 and June 15.

7. Blurred Lines by Robin Thick ft. T.I. and Pharrell
"Blurred Lines" was the longest-running single of the year at the top spot, peaking at number one for twelve consecutive weeks. With the combined chart run throughout June, July and August, "Blurred Lines" became Billboard's Song of the Summer 2013.
The single was number 1 on: June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10, August 17, August 24, August 31 and September 7.

8. Roar by Katy Perry
Upon the release of "Roar", many accused Perry of copying Sara Bareilles's "Brave". When Bareilles herself was asked about the controversy between the two songs, she responded: "Katy's a friend of mine and we've known each other a really long time", and was upset that there was a "negative spin on two artists that are choosing to share positive messages." She also mentioned she had known about "Roar" before its release and stated "If I'm not mad I don't know why anybody else is upset."
The single was number 1 on: September 14 and September 21.

9. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.
"Wrecking Ball" was Miley Cyrus' first billboard hot 100 number one. It hit number one for 2 weeks in a row. The track returned to number one 9 weeks later, and consequently had the largest gap between number-one sittings in Billboard Hot 100 history within a single chart run.
The single was number 1 on: September 28, October 5 and December 14.

10. Royals by Lorde
Lorde's debut single "Royals" became the second longest-running number-one single, claiming the top spot for a total of nine weeks.
The single was number 1 on: October 12, October 19, October 26, November 2, November 9, November 16, November 23, November 30 and December 7.

11. The Monster by Eminem ft. Rihanna
The last number one song of the year was "The Monster". It made Eminems fifth number-one single in the country, tying him with P. Diddy and Ludacris as the rappers with the most number-one songs on the chart. Meanwhile, it also made Rihanna the artist with the third-most US number-one singles (13), alongside Michael Jackson.
