She apparently decided to move forward with her music career without letting the producers know and pretty much breached her contract from what I understand? I think they have lawyers dealing with it right now.
It’s pretty dumb because it seems like she pissed off HBO/Mindy Kaling. I’d be shocked if she has a successful acting career if she tries to get back into it…
I'm not sure if she even had that many more seasons to do? Could she not have simply done what was left and then renegotiated? Or asked for some reduced screen time maybe?
Then again, perhaps she did and was met with a brick wall. I don't know her all that well and I don't feel warmest to Mindy Kaling's work and story choices either so the whole potential feud leaves me whelmed IDK
Did she do something other than quit? I mean shows have survived bigger changes / cast shakeups. She's young, she's ambitious, and trying to pursue a music career and she's been able to pick up decent momentum (I'm surprised she was able to bounce back farely well after her lead on a bway show got cut short). Sure you don't want to burn bridges within your industry but I think hiring a lawyer to handle your contract is probably the the better why to handle this.
I can find her personality a lil bit grating from the one culturistas podcast I heard her on, but I'm not going to knock a woman advocating for herself to advance in her career/direction. I'm sure (or at least I hope) she knows this is a gamble but so far it's going alright, half of her tour is sold out. And by timing her show isn't even filming because of the strike.
She breached her contract. I think typically if someone wants to leave a show on good terms or quit they discuss it first with the showrunners and work to negotiate an exit. She made other commitments without talking to the show, so now they have no choice but to write her off.
Also usually people see through what they were contracted for and then choose not to renew their contract (like Nina Dobrev on VD, everyone on grey’s anatomy - they do the seasons they are contracted for unless the writers write them off beforehand). Quitting in the middle of your contract is not a good look if you haven’t negotiated the exit first.
And I get wanting to support someone for being ambitious but if you’re screwing over your cast members/writers and bailing on professional commitments that’s not something to celebrate imo.
