Oh lemme rant rq:

I’m watching Not Others and i’ve been reading bits (dramabeans, asianwiki and twitter) about how the comedy or “immaturity” of Jeon Hye Jin’s character puts people off. I think it’s a very weak and slightly sexist opinion.

There’s a high tolerance from kdrama fans for bromance and their shit (literally and figuratively) jokes and gay baiting. But a female led comedic drama which touches on female sexuality, abuse, growing up too quick but holding onto youth is too difficult for people to watch? Give me a fucking break lol.

There are issues with the writing itself like there is too much going on for next week to be the last week. I don’t buy the older couples romance too much. That criticism I can take lol.

Urgh I'm not surprised by that shitty criticism, you're right, it's incredibly weak but very telling of the current climate in SK. Also are they not aware of how young Jeon Hye Jin had her duaghter like I thought that was kind of the point?

I really like Not Others so far (altho I'm behind atm so no spoilers pls), women led dramas tend to be my favourite anyway hehe.

I also just really enjoy Sooyoung's acting, her dramas have been my favourite out of all the snsd members.

Oh no spoilers from me dw lol. But yeah! The character had her baby alone, young, with an abusive father, dead mother, ran in “delinquent” circles PLUS the stigma single esp unmarried women get? The trauma of that especially on the now adult daughter who despite everything grew up really well. Like the cleotrapa tiktok clip: *aggressively poking head* turn it on!!!!

I’m somewhat sensitive to criticism of “noona” dramas and women-led dramas because the international reactions stink lol and they’re in such echo chambers where opinions like mine calling their shit out gets piled on. So I just seethe on my own lol.

Soo is definitely my favourite of Soshi Actress-line. She and Yoona are the ones i’m more likely to watch.

Yeh I find they're really underappreciated and if they are talked about at all, it's rather negative. when people will watch other utter shit just bc they think the actors are hot 💀 women led dramas have to be amazing otherwise they're never good enough for these ppl.

Tbh most of the dramas other intl fans love I don't care for 😂

Most of the dramas I watch are women led though, altho it's more common for jdramas

I agree with you 100% on the criticism. I kind of wanted more romance between the police people originally, but I'm also happy with the subtle buildup they're doing. At least it requires a bit more from the actors. lol With each scene, showing a little more affection.
