they should have just debuted them as a new NCT unit. they will never be able to escape the "NCT adjacent" label imo, not when 4/7 of them were in or supposed to be in nct and their music/performances feel similar to NCT's so far. but maybe SM is hoping that without the NCT label they can win over new fans who were put off by NCT's concept, even though the group is basically NCT in glasses and a fake mustache.

i just googled and apparently two of the remaining sm rookies are going to debut as part of nct tokyo, and shohei is going to be a soloist (prob bc of his age).
