In light of the previous discussion, I’ll just say that it’s possible to accept that Jamie meant no harm and Jennifer has zero Black friends and misread his message… AND to validate that someone could have read it as an antisemitic dog whistle for a reason.
Both involve people not understanding key contexts from another culture.
i'd take it one step farther and say, with the newfound realization that this is and always has been an antisemitic dog whistle, people should now take that knowledge and stop saying it. But people are adamant that they should and will not.
I'm not 100% sure, but it would be in line with some of her other activity. She just seems like a dick. I'm sure she had the ability to contact Foxx privately about this but chose to humiliate him publicly instead.
yes. it’s been very annoying to see black folks defend this as jewish people not understanding black culture but there’s also a woeful lack of understanding of jewish culture and why this was seen as harmful by them too. it’s the sp@z conversation all over again. we can’t demand cultural understanding when we refuse to acknowledge that terms or phrases we use have been and often continue to be harmful to other groups.
Thank you for this. Paraphrasing what other poster said, we should listen to the people who are on the other side of the hate. I'm Jewish and, like I said before, the "they" is not what bothers me, it's the analogy, which is an antisemitic belief/excuse for hate, that's been prevalent for many years.
And it's the same with racism, if someone makes a casual remark even though it wasn't meant to be racist, but it's considered racist but a lot of people who have been hurt by it, we should listen to them and not brush it off
