• Ava DuVernay became the first African American woman to have a film premiere In Competition at the Venice Film Festival with her film Origin
• People noted that The Hollywood Reporter's writeup of the film was... surprisingly nasty. Given that these film recaps are usually fluff pieces noting the pedigree of all involved it was odd of THR to call her film "a sermon" and lament her wasted potential
• Even worse? It appears that The Hollywood Reporter's writeup was plagiarized verbatim from a piece World of Reel did announcing the film back in November of 2022
• Some are speculating Chatgpt was used to write THR's article
• Whatever happened the write up has now completely changed
