Honestly get a cup if you can

Period underwear are not leakproof and very wasteful

what is wasteful about resuable underwear?

The way they have to be pre-washed, then washed on the day at certain temperature is extremely wasteful.

i haven't run into that issue! i pre-wash all new clothing i buy and i soak my period underwear before washing in a delicates bag. i've never had a problem.

I always prewash any new article of clothing before wearing, otherwise I will 100% get contact dermatitis. I thought that was the general recommendation for everyone, but maybe not?

I prewash too, because of the sizing. The smell give me a headache & I'm allergic to it. Or it could be contact dermatitis, I don't know.
People should wash their stuff because there's usually dye that's not washed out & if you sweat or get rained on, that can transfer to a chair, car seat or your underwear.

I've never heard of this "needing to be washed on the day at a certain temperature".. just rinse/soak after wearing and then wash them all together once your period is over

You really shouldn't do that

You're supposed to wash it under cold water on the day (not soak) until the water gets clear to avoid obstruction and make sure you underwear last longer
Then you can wash it (in a seperate bag) at 30°

You shouldn't wait more than a few hours after use

well, I never did that and they were fine. I never actually soaked them but the rinse was pretty involved. the reason they eventually became too worn to use is because the elastic band/stitching at the waistband unraveled and gave out first

I've also never done this, and I have period underwear that's like 5+ years old that still works great.

hmm that sounds like a general best practice sort of guidance to maximize the lifespan of your clothing but most people are not going to do that lbr and I'd imagine most period underwear companies account for real life use cases when testing the integrity and longevity of their products otherwise 80% of their customer base would be verrrry unhappy

the brand I own (bambody) actually recommends washing in warm water and even using the dryer (at a lower temperature). they do recommend rinsing or soaking soon after wearing but not for the reasons you're stating.

it amazes me how many women on the pill don't realize that the bleeding they experience on their sugar pill days isn't a real period. it's breakthrough bleeding, and it's completely unnecessary. it's not even healthier in any way!

you can easily have your prescribing doctor write your prescription for your birth control (whichever cheap one you're on, it doesn't even need to be one that is continuous) to be taken without the placebo week/days.

it is so much cheaper, better for the environment, and easier on women to just not have to buy feminine hygiene products at all. educate yourself and just don't fuck with having a period anymore if you're on BC.

I've never been on BC
I had a bilateral Salpingectomy (for medical reasons) so miss flow and her trusty hormones friend run freely in my body

Alas women in my family bleed far too much and for far too long
