It's been done hundreds of times before TLOU. The Walking Dead even did it's own take on the "gruff guy transporting child across the apocalypse" a year before TLOU with the Telltale game.
Yes. Kid that is immune bc his mom was bitten right before she gave birth, could be the savior of humanity if delivered to the right person/place, and Daryl must do the delivering/protecting.
Except it’s set in France and there are nuns and sexy nightclubs, bc why not?
There’s literally no explanation. They show him floating on like a fucking raft. No water, no food, no shelter, just floating across the Atlantic and being a-okay to just go walking after hitting the shore. .
To a point, sure. But to have something that seems like such a blatant echo to such a recent, acclaimed, and recognized series, an HBo series that undoubtedly has a bigger budget and more recognizable actors comparatively, is…not a good look. Or a smart choice.
maybe i just read too much dystopia, it just seems normal and expected to me. wasnt reedus also just in that really famous video game where he had to take a baby across some dystopia too? dont quote me on that one, im not positive the baby was actually a baby, it sounded like a weird premise lol
Which? The original spin-off announced in 2020 was certainly not this. It involved Carol and it was supposed to be a road show. It was definitely not set in France, either, as the original concept involved the characters being able to return home occasionally, with Negan and Maggie heading up TWD. but then AMC cancelled TWD and then the original showrunner, Melissa Mcbride, and original scripts and concepts were tossed out the window for…this super original concept lol.
I mean, okay, sure, but the video game series was/is hugely popular and has a tremendous following. The series also started filming in 2021, with teasers from filming and casting being well received and all the info for the series building its own big following. Did they know it’d get as much positive attention as it has and be leading in nominations? No. But everyone knew about that series coming and everyone knows what TLOU is about(especially the people involved in developing the DD show) and to decide to create something that could be held up in such a close, if not directcomparison to an HBo series, especially when the popularity of TWD has been in the shitter for years still doesn’t seem like a good choice.
But, again, AMC, a company that has been struggling, has sunk a lot of money into all of this and has a very long history of crap decisions, so it really shouldn’t be surprising.

The comic Sweet Tooth came out in 2009. Same premise, gruff guy who has lost everything transports a kid across an apocalyptic landscape.
The Sandor and Arya road trip in Game of Thrones/ASOIAF.
Etc, etc
