I can understand why he specifically would not be fondest of Last Jedi. But I still appreciate the swings it took for a franchise that can't seem to move beyond nostalgia outside of 3 instances.

People really hate the Last Jedi but I loved it because like you said it did something different. I wish we would have continued that story instead of the piece of shit that was Rise of the Skywalker.

Yeah I mean I have my issues with certain points of it but overall it’s a solid movie and I love it. The biggest problem is just that they all did whatever they wanted so it doesn’t fit in the trilogy being Abrams came back and tried to “fix” what he didn’t like in the last one. But I totally do understand why John would feel that way. I both want what the third could’ve been if it didn’t try to backtrack and what the whole trilogy could’ve been if they just planned the whole thing out vs letting Johnson do whatever

It made no sense at all. Forgetting the plot holes and character assassinations. It was just shit as a film too.

i liked the movie as it's own thing, but the whole issue imo was the fact that the trilogy wasn't planned ahead so it completely deviated from what was set up in the first movie. and then the third movie suffered even more when they tried to correct it. they just should of deviated again and focused on making the last one something of it's own. the three movies maybe wouldn't be a cohesive tied in trilogy, but it could just be like .. 3 movies of unpredictable space shennanigans

the thing that makes TLJ good is that it felt like it could have still been a part of a bigger plan, but it just... wasn't, and the terrible attempt to "correct" things just made it all awful.
