I feel like people kind of talk shit about this movie now, but I think the shot of Mike standing in the corner while Heather screams and the camera falls and everything goes silent is legitimately one of the creepiest things ever.

Yeah, I think people who only watched it in recent years don't understand how original it was at the time; they've already seen a bunch of the found footage films that it directly inspired.

It’s genuinely the scariest thing I’ve ever fucking seen, it’s so ominous

When we got back from the cinema, my asshole brother-in-law was standing in the corner of the lounge!

Yes. I watched it at the cinema when I was about 12, it scared the hell out of me. I guess these days you have to watch it with the right mood and ambiance.

I saw it in theatres after it had been out for a few weeks. The show was PACKED and when it ended, the crowd went from quiet to flipping out and loudly discussing the film. It was a great crowd and really emphasized how the film plus the marketing really melded together into a incredible experience

For me it was the hands on tent and the laughing. I will never camp near woods again

it's such a fantastic ending! I've rarely seen a horror movie or thriller with an ending that good. it fits with the rest of the story (low bar, but it often isn't reached somehow), it's suggestive and scary and implies that more happened afterwards that we just didn't get to see.. excellent filmmaking
